I remember when I was a child, lying in my bed wide awake and terrified that there was a monster in my room, just waiting for me to fall asleep so it could devour me. My defense against it was the main defense of most children in a similar situation…to pull the blanket over my head in the universal knowingness that if I can’t see it, consequently, it can’t see me!
